It’s been a long time since I posted anything on our blog. When we redesigned we included this blog feature and knew there would be pressure to keep posting news and events and unfortunately, we haven’t been keeping up. Sure, we update menus and wine lists, and our Facebook group page and Twitter accounts post the latest and greatest, but we have certainly dropped the ball when it comes to blogging on any kind of regular basis on our own website.

Recently we have had such good news pouring in that I thought it was time to post something. The Holiday Season saw Straw Hat busier than ever and I have to give a big mention of appreciation to our great staff for keeping up with all the craziness. We served over 4500 meals (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) in seventeen days! Everyone was exhausted and we are all getting back to normal (after a day off here and there) but everyone stepped up and made it happen! There will be plenty of time to sleep in September!

Just before the holidays (on December 23rd) we received word that Straw Hat and Meads Bay were named as one of the “Best Places to Travel in 2014” by Travel + Leisure Magazine. The next day, Straw Hat was named one of the “50 Best Caribbean Restaurants – 2013” by Caribbean Journal! What a great gift for the holidays!

This morning we woke up to find that we have been named by Fodor’s Travel as one of the “10 Best Restaurants in the Caribbean!” and we are in excellent company! Being mentioned alongside Jose Andres and Eric Ripert, as well as many other internationally renowned chefs has certainly put us in a new class of restaurant and and is a great honor. Chef Nick Dellinger and his team have really stepped things up in our kitchen and the reviews have reflected this. Our long-standing staff (both front and back-of-house) take great pride in our team and I have to say I am extremely proud of all of us!

I also have to give a big thank you to all the guests who chose to dine with us! We couldn’t do it without you and we’re so pleased to serve you and hear the wonderful comments you have about your experiences at Straw Hat. We look forward to welcoming you back year after year and we are always interested in your comments and suggestions. Please let us know what you like, and what you don’t, as it has helped us over the years to make Straw Hat a better restaurant. I can be contacted at any time at and I am always interested in your feedback. I also pass along all comments to the appropriate person, so if you want to get a message to any of our staff members and you don’t have their email address, be assured that I will get the message to them. If you really liked your experience at Straw Hat, feel free to post a comment o our Trip Advisor page. If you didn’t enjoy your experience, forget Trip Advisor and let me know directly! 😉

As we approach our seventeenth anniversary on March 4th we are excited to welcome you back again and again! We have big plans for the future and we will unveil them as the time approaches. I can’t promise that I will begin blogging on any kind of regular basis, but you can always follow what’s going on on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

It’s time for me to get back to work! Thanks again for all your support and we’ll look forward to seeing you soon in Anguilla!

Sunny regards!
